In Tandem is an online magazine for multi-genre artists sponsored by Red Sweater Press. We seek submissions that include two (and only two) pieces of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual art by one or two creators, which connect to or communicate with each other in some way.
Submissions may consist of one of the following combinations:
1 poem & 1 nonfiction
1 poem & 1 artwork
1 poem & 1 fiction
1 fiction & 1 artwork
1 fiction & 1 nonfiction
1 nonfiction & 1 artwork
Creators who create work in tandem with another person must confirm that they have permission to submit work on behalf of the other creator. The submitter should clarify in their cover letter whether both pieces have been co-created, or whether each piece was created by a single author. We do not accept any works created using generative AI tools.
Genre Guidelines
Poetry
Poems must be between 3 lines and 3 pages (8.5x11”). Haiku sequences and sectioned poems are OK as long as each haiku/section is clearly part of the same sequence/poem.
Work should be typed in a readable font and submitted in an acceptable file type: .doc, .docx, .odt, .pdf, .rtf.
Prose
Fiction and nonfiction pieces should be between 500 and 1,500 words, single spaced. The title is not included in the word count limit, but section headers are (if applicable).
Work should be typed in a readable font and submitted in an acceptable file type: .doc, .docx, .odt, .pdf, .rtf.
visual Art
Art pieces may be composed in any medium (or combination of media), but must be submitted digitally. If the art piece cannot be scanned, it must be photographed in a well-lit area with no shadows falling on the artwork. The resulting photograph should be cropped to exclude as much of the background as possible.
File specifications are as follows:
Resolution: 300-600 DPI
File type: .JPG/.JPEG or .PNG
File size: 1-10 MB
HYBRID WORK
If your piece(s) do(es) not fall clearly into one of the above categories, consider which aspect you want to center in the submission: a painting with words on it, for example, would be classified primarily as Visual Art, and a creative nonfiction piece that incorporates poetry would be classified primarily as Prose (Nonfiction).
We do not accept audio or video submissions at this time.
